I still haven’t been able to go out someplace like the city to sit on a barstool in a cute little café overlooking SoHo or The Village, but I did happen to spend about two and a half hours of my day just sitting on the floor in Barnes and Nobles flipping through travel books and reading about the small, local places I’d one day like to visit.
I ended up in the travel section by chance- I was just trying to find a secluded place to sit near the charging ports (my phone was at 15%) and turning a corner, I found myself in the perfect little alcove to spread out all my things around me. Picture a 16-year-old sitting against a wall with five New Jersey & New York travel picture books spread out around her with a notebook and a pen in hand. I’ve never even tried this hard to study for my finals.
So, getting back to the point of this: it was about 7:45 when I took a look outside. When I tell you that I have never seen a rainbow so vibrant and dazzling, I mean it. The sun danced along the buildings in the distance and they seemed like they were made of pure gold. The rainbow stemmed directly from the ground, and made an entire, visible semi-circle. The colors were the most vibrant I’ve ever seen.
I couldn’t resist taking all my things and stepping outside to take pictures and just witness it up closer. It made me realize how obsessed we are with seeing new places and getting out of our ‘boring’ hometowns. It made me realize that we all need to stop and admire the beauty around us once in a while; be content with our own surroundings before we go venturing farther out into the world.
The picture I’ve attached doesn’t even begin to capture the real-life beauty of the rainbow, but at least it’s something! 🙂
P.S. The picture you can see when you’re on the home page is much better than the magnified version you see once you click on this post.
